Concert Review: Bea Porges
As I walk through the doors of the Vinyl at Center Stage in Atlanta, GA, I can feel the energy in the venue radiating before any performer comes out. From the low lighting to the minimal number of people inside, the space was one that I had never experienced before. As we near the 8 pm mark I’m starting to feel giddy as I am now well aware that this is going to be a very intimate show, and that I’m going to have the space I need to fully enthrall myself within the music.
At about 8:05 pm Bea Porges enters the stage with her guitar in hand alongside her bandmate, Jacob Sherwin, who will be playing percussion for the night. On this night, Porges was the opener for a Nashville-native band known as The Minks. The entire set consists of Porges playing her acoustic guitar while wistfully singing her self-written songs that hold a 70s laid-back flow, reminiscent of soft jazz with lyrics that you can feel in your soul. She sang all of the current music that she has released on streaming platforms which, as of now, is 5 songs.

Porges released her first single on April 28th, 2023 titled “stateside,” and this was one of my favorites that she had performed that night. With the mention of Atlanta in the song, I felt connected to the music during this song as I also grew up In a city outside of Atlanta, which seems to be a similarity between Porges and I. The song appears to be about a complicated relationship between the narrator and a love interest who lives further away. Porges performed this song with a great deal of talent and devotion to her craft, and she weaves through her lyrics like a breeze flowing through tall grass.
A few of the other songs that I enjoyed that night were '“all day long,” which is a song about “dating a massive stoner” as said by Porges on stage herself, and “linger,” which is about the feeling of being entranced by a love interest to the point of not being aware of what might be going on between each other, whether that be a positive or negative thing. Porges has a way of performing that is almost similar to that of a siren, in which she draws you into her performance and holds your attention through her swaying vocals and brilliant lyrics.

In the future, I will definitely be returning to see Porges perform, whether it be in an intimate venue or at the State Farm Arena. She has a talent for creating art and performing it in the same way some of my favorite artists do, and I believe she is one of the next indie-pop girls that will become well-known and loved within the music industry.
